چکیده

Background Myocardial fibrosis is a hallmark of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and may contribute to arrhythmias and heart failure. Sarcomere mutations appear to induce profibrotic changes before left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) develops. Measuring T1 relaxation times with contrast cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) allows robust quantification of the cardiac extracellular volume (ECV) and noninvasive assessment of diffuse myocardial fibrosis.

T1 measurements identify extracellular volume expansion in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy sarcomere mutation carriers with and without left ventricular hypertrophy.

BACKGROUND Myocardial fibrosis is a hallmark of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and a potential substrate for arrhythmias and heart failure. Sarcomere mutations seem to induce profibrotic changes before left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) develops. To further evaluate these processes, we used cardiac magnetic resonance with T1 measurements on a genotyped HCM population to quantify myocardial e...

Ultrasonic Assessment of Myocardial Microstructure in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Sarcomere Mutation Carriers With and Without Left Ventricular Hypertrophy.

BACKGROUND The noninvasive assessment of altered myocardium in patients with genetic mutations that are associated with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) remains challenging. In this pilot study, we evaluated whether a novel echocardiography-based assessment of myocardial microstructure, the signal intensity coefficient (SIC), could detect tissue-level alterations in HCM sarcomere mutation carr...

CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE Relation between QT duration and maximal wall thickness in familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Background: QT abnormalities have been reported in left ventricular hypertrophy and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Objective: To determine the relation between left ventricular hypertrophy and increased QT interval in familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Methods: The QT interval was measured in 206 genotyped adult subjects with familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy from 15 unrelated families carr...

Nuclear magnetic resonance in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

The large differences in the spin lattice relaxation times (T1) of blood and myocardium (measured by nuclear magnetic resonance) allow the heart to be visualised without the use of contrast media. The findings using nuclear magnetic resonance in 11 unselected patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy were compared with those in equal numbers of normal subjects and patients with electrocardiogra...

Relationship between Myocardial Extracellular Space Expansion Estimated with Post-Contrast T1 Mapping MRI and Left Ventricular Remodeling and Neurohormonal Activation in Patients with Dilated Cardiomyopathy

OBJECTIVE Post-contrast T1 values are closely related to the degree of myocardial extracellular space expansion. We determined the relationship between post-contrast T1 values and left ventricular (LV) diastolic function, LV remodeling, and neurohormonal activation in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty-nine patients with DCM (mean age, 55 ± 15 years; 41 ma...
